3 weeks ago today I had to call my mom for the first time during a run to come get me. After getting a cortisone shot 2 weeks ago, I ran my first 2 miles on Tuesday night at a JRC group run. It felt fine during the run, but then my ITBS flared up a little after and I haven't run since. I've been focusing on strength training my glutes/quads and foam rolling. Oh, foam rolling...
I picked this up at JRC and it's made a huge difference. The old foam roller I had was really soft, and I felt absolutely nothing. This one hurts, which is a welcome change. I also went through a mini round of ASTYM, and now I have the bruises to show it. The PT says my quads are so tight that that's causing the problem with my IT band. Hurray.
The biggest challenge for me has been finding a new way to work out. I've lost so much endurance from not running 20+ mile weeks, but a while even the elliptical was hurting me. One of my friends said now I can re-focus on strength training, but it's just not the same...
