I'll probably be more motivated to post in here if I actually talk about my life, which, yes, includes more than running and baking! This past week was pretty great - my friend Ilyssa came down from NY to visit me, and we got out and did a bunch of stuff around town.
First up, Friday was my coworker's last day. I made her the most appropriate cake ever. In the future I'm going to try to actually blog these cake recipes. This one was a Twix cake, and it came out awesome! Next week is another coworker's last day, so that will be a Reese's cake - look forward to that one.
Saturday was the World of Nations Celebration downtown, which was basically a mini Epcot in Metropolitan Park. I blogged about that over at Bold City Bucket List. My friends and I had a lot of fun and I finally got to try pierogies!
Saturday night Ilyssa got into town! We went for Thai food for dinner, and then met up with some of my friends at Dahlia's Pour Hour. She fell in love with their "pour your own" wine setup, and I stuck to my blueberry beer.
Sunday we went to Jax Beach for brunch at Secret Garden Cafe. I had the eggs benedict with potatoes and plenty of coffee. The food was pretty good, and we didn't have to wait for a table which was nice. After, we spent a few hours on the beach and walked around checking out one of the beach parades. We were going to head to St. Augustine after, but we were both so tired from the sun that we just walked around on the Riverwalk downtown instead.
Monday morning I taught Ilyssa all about biscuits and gravy. We went to Maple Street before we hit the road for the Kennedy Space Center!
The Space Center was one of my favorite trips I've taken so far! We got to see Atlantis and took a bus tour around where they do the big launches. I'm a huge space nerd, so it was a lot of fun seeing all of the exhibits. I'm hoping that I can go check out some other museums one day - maybe the air and space one in DC!
The media nerd in me spent some time reading all of the (English) headlines from the moon landing. My grandpa thought the entire thing was fake...
Tuesday afternoon, Ilyssa had her flight home. Before she left, I took her around downtown to see Chamblin's, Sweet Pete's, and, most importantly, Chomp Chomp!
In all honesty, I did absolutely nothing while she was here. We walked a bit, but I slacked off completely on running. I've got 4 half marathons coming up in the fall, and I want to start building a base before I start really training. Tuesday night I did an easy 2 miles, and tonight I did another 2.5. My hip is crazy tight right now (thanks ITBS), so I'll be focused on stretching that out for a little while.
I'm Jenn! I'm a baker, blogger, sorta-runner, and writer living in Jacksonville, Florida!
