One of my biggest fears, ever, is heights. I don't know what it is, but there's something about the idea of plunging to the ground that scares the hell out of me. I can be 3 feet off the ground or 30, and I'll be shaking.
Since I'm terrified of heights, I've avoided doing a lot of "daredevil" things like skydiving and bungee jumping. But, I want to try new things and overcome my fears. So, when one of the local MeetUp groups posted a rock climbing event, I decided to take the plunge (oh gosh) and sign up.
The Edge Rock Gym is one of those places in Jacksonville that has always been there, but that I've never heard of or thought to even look for. I met up with some people from the MeetUp group, watched the safety video, and got my harness.
I actually wasn't too terrible the first time I went. There were a few courses that were easy enough for me to make it part of the way up. I didn't get to the top of any, but I did way better than I thought my fear would let me do.
I had so much fun that I went again with my friends Jennii and Jay! They did way better than I did, but I'm super excited to have people who want to go with me.
Now, if only you could skydive from just 30 feet up...
Have you ever gone rock climbing? What's your biggest fear?
