When I first got injured, I spent a lot of time sitting around in a lot of pain. My IT band was so badly inflamed that I felt it throbbing while I was laying down. I used to even say, "Forget the marathon. If I can just go back and run on Wednesday nights again, I'll be happy."
Wednesday night runs with JRC have always been my favorite. It's a good group of people, and we get free cake and discounts on food after. Since I was feeling better, I decided to test out my legs with a run. The good thing about this course is, it's an out and back, so you can pick whatever distance you'd like.
When I got to the run, I realized that there were already some changes. The girl who used to lead it from JRC (one of my friends) has a new job, so she passed over the reigns to Jackie, who coordinates the Sunday runs that I used to attend. Awesome! We were also greeted with two boxes of cupcakes from Sweet by Holly, courtesy of Girls on the Run. They're an awesome non-profit that teaches younger girls to make better decisions while they learn to run. There is a Cupcake Run being held in town on April 11 (register here!) that I am SO excited about!
I did 2 (slow) miles, but I was happy to see that my finishing speed isn't awful. After, I rewarded myself with a cupcake (or, um, 2)!
