Happy Saturday! While I watch the first Saturday of college football (I still have no team to root for...), I figured I'd post about the week. There wasn't much running (it rained every single day, so my workouts were all indoors), but there was plenty of food!
Last weekend my friend Kris came down from New York. I love having people visit, since it gives me a reason to go out to different places. I have no problem eating at restaurants alone, but I feel guilty spending money at restaurants when I have a fridge filled with food.
We started off at Poe's Tavern over in Atlantic Beach. They're known for having the best burgers in town, so we checked it out before we went to Engine 15 for drinks. I got the Black Cat - grilled onions, Edgar's drunken chili, applewood bacon, and pimiento cheese. Messiest thing I've ever eaten, but it was super delicious!
After eating that burger, having beers, and stopping for ice cream with our friends, I felt obligated to go for a run. Cookie woke me up at about 6:30 for breakfast, so I forced myself at the door. I'm still way slower than I want to be, but it's also still stupid hot out.
After my run, Kris and I met up with my friends David and Nick at Maple Street for biscuits. I got The Squawking Goat - fried chicken, fried goat cheese medallion, and pepper jelly. I also added a side of sausage gravy, because duh. This place is super good, and it should be on your "must-visit" spots if you ever come to Jacksonville.
Some of us headed out to take the Jax Ale Trail. You can read all about that here.
We ended the night at Chomp Chomp, where I got The Westsider. This is my favorite sandwich (It's buffalo chicken topped with blue cheese and celery, served with curry chips on the side), and even looking at this picture again makes me want it...
Kris went back to New York, so it was time for work. I've been having mini bake sales each week to raise money for the First Coast Heart Walk. This week I made red velvet (yuck) fudge - that recipe is available here!
I stopped by Target to pick up a new planner. I started doing bullet journaling, which I think is helping me be a little more organized. Bullet journaling lets you customize your own goals and obligations, so you don't have to keep 900 notes everywhere. Have you ever tried it?
Hurricane Hermine started to hit on Thursday night. I had never been through a hurricane in Florida, so I was really nervous. We ended up getting about 30 minutes of rain, and a little bit of wind. I'm really happy it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Naturally, I made hurricane treats for work. These are M&M brookies!
What are you up to this Labor Day weekend? Where is your "best burger" joint?
I'm Jenn! I'm a baker, blogger, sorta-runner, and writer living in Jacksonville, Florida!
